About us

Hi there!

Im Kim-Sven, 31 years of age, Indonesian / German mix, born and raised in Bali, Indonesia, seminyak to be precised. Naturally a wanderlust, its in my nature to moved around :) I have been living in Australia, USA, Germany, Switzerland and finally moved to Amsterdam in 2010, and fell in love straight away with this beautiful city. I met my soul mate Merel in 2011, bought a nice house in Amstelveen together in 2015 and get married in that same year! What a year it was!

The woman behind STRAW the label, Aylin, is my sister and the men behind Crispy Duck are the Howie twins (Alex and Edrick) my good friends from Bali. I really like their products and I know that they produce quality stuff that potentially have a broad market in Europe.

The idea of Bali Monkey was born in March 2016, when I escaped the dutch winter and went back home to Bali for a short break. As usual, good ideas comes when you least expected it.  I was just having a casual drinks and chat with good friends and family, Alex and Aylin were present that evening. I am a tennis coach by profession and I work mostly in the afternoon, so I have a lot of spare time during the day. Idea suddenly popped, I told them to give me a few sample of their products so I can bring it back to Amsterdam. I did not really know what I had to do really with the product at the time, so I went to a few retailers here Amsterdam, mostly really like the products, but as you know retailers ask for big margins, which is not the best option for us. Maybe in the future!

So I decided to start something for myself, thats how "Bali Monkey" is born! I am supporting Bali fashion/ lifestyle brands, starting with Crispy Duck, STRAW and Bali Monkey own clothing line. In the future perhaps I will take more Bali brands under our wing, and I will do my own selection of brands.

I made a promise to myself and to my future customers, that I will personally visit an orphanage in Bali once a year, and donate up to 10% of Bali Monkey's profit to support Balinese kids in need. Even though I have been travelling and spending time away from Bali for a long time, but Bali will always be my home and I want to contribute to the future of the less fortunate Balinese children. We will update our charity project on our blog or facebook page to keep you guys updated aswell.
